A day with a Master

So on Monday Masta Ace and Edo.G came to the town where I study, Kiel. I've seen Ace for the seventh time, each time it's different, but this time it was really special!

I arrived in Kiel on Sunday,I drove 2 1/2 hours with my brother, since I don't really live in Kiel anymore, I just go there to write my exams (but pssssst). So that night there was supposed to be a Ustream of Ace and Edo from Birmingham, England. Right on time at 9pm my time they were sitting in front of the laptop ready to stream. During the chat i mentioned that I'm watching football, and they asked how I can do that in Germany. I got Digital TV with ESPN America, so I can watch all the NFL games. Ace and Ed got all excited, since they are huge football fans and they knew they would come to Kiel the next day. They said they might wanna watch Monday Night Football over at my crib. The stream continued for over an hour, whoever wants to watch it, you can check it here (It was really cool):

The same night I emailed Ace if they really wanted to come to the crib to watch the game, and he was like: DEFINITELY. So the next day I went grocery shopping and got some beer and coke (cola, lol). I was preparing a lasagna and some chicken curry for the night. I also got the word 2 days ago, that Strick would come too, he will be the Merch Guy this tour. Akrobatik and Paten Locke were also announced for the show.

My boys Esperado and Matt Sense also had their first big performance with 12 Finger Dan as the local act, they had a couple beats from me too, and they ripped it, they did a great job. Matt picked me up around 4 and we went over to Epserado to do a last little rehearsal (I had to kick a verse too). We went to the Luna Club around 6 to do the sound check. Ace, Edo, Ak, P, Strick and DJ Moe-D arrived around 7. It was a very warm welcome and Ace told me that they would premiere the joint I did for their album. I didn't even get to hear it before that day, so I was really excited about it. I heard it during the sound check and it sounded crazy.
Anyway, my boys got on stage around 9.30 and did a great show, Ak and Paten went on afterwards and ripped it too. Ace and Edo got on stage around 11. They did ALL the classic joint like - I got to have it, The Symphony, Love comes and goes, Born 2 roll (with the 3rd verse over the Ante Up beat) Good ol love, Beautiful, Rock the beat and a lot more, they also played a lot of the songs off the new album. The people went totally crazy and since it was a prettysmall club and it was packed, it had a really great feel to it.
So they left the stage for a short moment to come back for an Encore, it started with Take a walk, by Ace and then there was my moment, I don't wanna tell y'all too much, besides that it was a world premiere, just check the video right here: (The Sound quality is really good)

So after the show I jumped in the tour van and we went to the hotel for a quick second, before we got over to my brothers (my former) crib. My brother and a couple friends were already there, and since the living room is pretty small, it was PACKED!
Ace was really classic, while watching football he was drinking tea and Henny, lol. We talked about a lot of things, but I can't tell y'all everything, I just say it reached from music to plastic surgery... Ak and Edo were a little pissed that the Pats were getting their ass beat tho. Akrobatik was ustreaming live from the appartment, making bets when Ace would fall asleep, but Ace stayed awake doing some, what Ak called "Pre-Game-Routines". I also finished the lasagna and cooked the rice to go with the chicken curry, and everybody was really happy about getting something to eat late at night, don't need to tell y'all that I'm a hobby chef, just ask these dudes, lol. I brought em back to the hotel around 6 am, they had to leave for Oslo, Norway around 7, so you can be pretty sure they didn't catch any sleep... But that's how it is if you do what you love.

All of these MC's are great people and I felt really fotunate to spend a whole night with em. See y'all next year!

A & E - Arts & Entertainment

For my taste, 2009 has been an incredible good year for Hip Hop. We have new dudes like Fashawn, Kid Cudi and Wale coming up as the next generation, who all released hot albums, we got some of the Heavyweights like Eminem, Jay-Z and Raekwon who released great albums, some hot ungderground albums like Double Barrel or the Superstar Quamallah album „The Invisible Man“ and we also had huge disappointments, like that Busta Rhymes album, which was really close to garbage. I know a lot of y'all won't agree on these classifications, but that's the way i see it.

An album that doesn't really fit into any of these categories is „Arts & Entertainment“ by Masta Ace & Edo.G. Two legends who are making music for 20 years, uniting to record an album. Of course the expectations have been incredibly high. The first thing I gotta say about the album is, that I love the mixdown. The quality is great, sounds better than Blueprint 3. DJ Rob and Ace were doing an incredible job on that. Not everybody has an album with a huge sound like that (wink wink Cormega).
The album is a concept album, as usual. It's set up like a TV night and The Bundies, the latest signing of Ace's m3 label, are playing the couple that's guiding you through the album, in a really hilarious way. The Album starts off with a hypnotizing beat by M-Phazes for the track „Hands Up High“. Sounds more like an Edo joint than an Ace joint, sound wise. It's almost Dr. Dre like. Definitely catchy, just like the hook, it's a goodtrack for live shows. The raps are typical battle raps... „Your girl lips cute play the medley on the flute“ (Ace) All in all a really good one! Number 2 features Large Pro and is called „Fans“. Ace starts off and raps like he's talking about his wife, when in fact he's talking about the fans. Large Pro sounds great on this beat and is the perfect feature guest, Edo is coming correct too. Another good one.
The next joint is called „A's & E's“ and it's the first concept song of the album. Ace mostley uses words that start with A and Edo uses words starting with E. HOT! Marsha Ambrosius is on the hook, which sounds a little weird, but in a good way, fits the song perfectly! The melody of the song is really simple, the drums make the track. They sound sick! Next up, the single „Little Young“. I'm sure everybody has heard it, seen the incredible video and loved it. The song has been on BET 106 and Park last week, I think that's a great thing, hope some of these kids listened close!

„Reminds Me“ might be my favorite track of the album, it's Ace's solo joint, Edo is just doing the hook. I love the vibe of the song, a really soulful, relaxed beat and Ace is spitting 2 of his verses that we love him for: „Play this on your jukebox in your bar rooms, who the best who the worst all this arguin won't matter when the smoke clears, Hip Hop's not dead, there's a little hope here...“ Gotta love this!
After this, there is another relaxed joint called „Good Music“ which features Pos of De La Soul. Another favorite. The DJ Spinna beat gives the 3 MC's a lot of room to flow and deliver their message. The hook is very simple but absolutely perfect, Pos is definitely the right feature for a beat like this, and he told me that this is an absolutely great record. Everything fits.
Next up is one I like the least off the album. I don't like the Double-O beat and KRS is coming with lines like „most of y'all pussy, the rest of y'all dickheads“. That is definitely not what you wanna hear from somebody who's always preaching about the temple of Hip Hop...
But the next track saves it. It's Edo's solo joint called “Over There“. Another M-Phazes production, this dude is killing it right now. Not much to say about it, great one. Following is another joint about touring which features DOITALL from the Lords of the Underground. Sounds like someone used the „Juicy Fruit“ drums on here. Solid track, really good one again.
Next up is the grimey peak of the album. This one needs no Hook, „Ei8ght is enuff“, Ace and Ed spit 8 bars back and forth, some really mean lines the beat makes you put on your ugly face. From what I read all over the net this is one of the fan favorites on the album.

Track 11 is called „Here I go“. It has a really nice piano beat and Edo starts talking about his history in the game, Ace is becoming a little more personal with some personal fears that you face when you are an artist. 3rd verse is done by Jamelle Bundy, she's one half of the Bundies and an incredible singer. She doesa great job.
Last track on the album is called „Dancing like a white girl“ and it features the rock group Chester French and Pav Bundy. I read that people really had mixed feeling about it. Some say this sounds like a lame effort to sound commercial, the others say they love it cause it's so funny. You gotta look at the track as for what it is. There's a reason they put it in the end. It doesn't really fit the rest of the tracks, Ace & Edo knew that, but they wanted to do something different and funny. Now somebody tell me that this ain't hilarious. On tour, they often talk to the people and dance with em afterwards. So imagine em chilling after the show in Europe and some white girls dancing with em completely off rhythm, trying to impress them, you need to make a track about this. And they did. After all this is just a great production, the beat is hot, the Lyrics are funny, so don't complain you fockers...

On this example you can see what's wrong with Hip Hop today. It's like half of the fans are complaining that shit changed and doesn't sound like the early 90's and the other half is complaining that everybody is stuck on the golden age sound. Ace & Edo just did a really entertaining album, it is versatile, it is produced really well, maybe there could have been 3 more tracks on it but overall it's just good music, simple and plain... Everybody who said they didn't like it should give it a chance to grow on them.

Everybody make sure to visit for some exclusive videos, the attempt to reuinite the Juice Crew is super interesting!

HipHops have become political prisoners!

Last night I saw a report about HipHop in Myanmar. HipHops are haunted (by the
government and the police) and judged for being part of an "oppositional organization". The Acid Crew was rapping about self-determination, asked the listener to think by his/ her own and to question the government and the society. Therefore most of them were senteced to 7 years in prison. Now even HipHops have become polictical prisoners!

iHeart my iPod

Dear iPod,

I am so thankful for your friendship. I love you. Don’t let this bother you. It’s a different type of commitment like in that Musiq Soulchild song b.u.d.d.y”. I know you enjoy listening to it just as much as I do.

You are always there when I need you, dear iPod. You are my little RBG partner. We are revolutionary but gangsta, right?! They won’t know. It’s just you and me blasting “That’s war” by Dead Prez.

Remember that one time, when you were out of breath and I had to give you a break while Mos Def was flowing steady on “Quiet Dog”?! Don’t do that to me too often. I might panic, run home and skip classes to plug you in and cheer you up again.

I know you're kinda upset when I make us listen to Mickey Factz ft. the Cool Kids “Rockin n Rollin” but think of it as our current musical guilty pleasure, okay?! I don't think it will endanger our Hip Hop credentials that much.

I’m so sorry for making you drop on the ground that one time. You mean so much to me and I will make sure this doesn't happen again.

You know me so well, dear iPod. You play “Brooklyn Masala” by Masta Ace for me because you know that I’m that “Frankfurt Masala”. I love you for it. You play “Hey Love” by Marvin because you love me right back. We are meant to be because we’re on the same audiolength. You also like being schooled by Jeru. I learn more from “History 101” than in my American History class. We enjoy ridin' dirty with Bun B&Pimp C when we’re on the train. I like how you make me speed up my walk when we listen to “Men at work” by Kool G Rap.

I care for you, dear iPod. When you don’t feel well and your shine fades, I’m right there to gently touch you and make your smile light up again. And you are so sweet to me in return because you always give me something I can bop my head to while I’m on the go.

And after a long day when you finally snuggle up to me in bed, Slick Rick is there to tell us a “Children’s Story”. Goodnight and see you tomorrow, dear iPod.

HipHop's birthplace sold!

On August 11, 1973, in the first floor recreation room of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, West Bronx, New York City, HipHop was born. It was on that day that Kool DJ Herc, known as "the father of HipHop", and his sister threw the first HipHop house party. Herc, who got his name from all his muscles (Hercules), said that no one from the so called HipHop community came or donate money to save the birthplace of HipHop. It would have been peanuts for certain people to save this historical place. But where were these cats, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, P. Diddy, Fat Joe, Russell Simmons, all the Lil's and so on? The people, who paved the way for a (sub-) culture to become a worldwide culture and movement, asked for their support, but no support was given. Maybe it's easy to find out why. This could probably happen, because these people are only RAPPERS, who want to benefit from something called HipHop but are not interested to give HipHop anything back at all. Instead of keeping it true to the culture and be all about "peace, love, unity & having fun", they rather "earn a little MORE paper", "make it rain on them hoes" and are "ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS!" and not about HipHop, because there is no "HipHop running through their veins".

Without the soul and the heart there is no HipHop, cause everything you're doing then is misusing and abusing something which came out of the culture for monetary reasons. That's what these dudes have proven. That's not what HipHop is about! That's NOT HIPHOP! What are you about? Live HipHop! BE HipHop!

In peace, love & unity

Royce da 5'9'' - Street Hop Tracklist

We finally got a tracklist, too bad the production credits aren't in it. Of course the whole Slaughterhouse Crew is featured (Is it me or do you always have to think about that Masta Ace album when you read the name?). Tracklist looks aight, hope it will be better than Royce's previous efforts. Funny thing is, that he never put out a great album but still he is one of my favorite MC's, I copped all the 12"es Premo produced... I think he should just pick some better beats sometimes.

Abu Simbel

The temple of Abu Simbel was built around 1300 before christ in Egypt. Ramses II. The Great was ruling and leading Egypt to their prime, economically and cultural. It was a time of peace and he had the goal to build great monuments all around the country, to show how mighty he was. He built 2 temples in Abu Simbel, a big and a small one, one for himself and one for his "favorite wife". The crazy thing about it is, that these monuments weren't built like the pyramids, stone by stone, they had to carve the temples out of 2 enormous rocks, with simple bronze and stone tools. Thousands of tons of limestone had to be removed, to get 180 feet deep into the enormous rock. It took over 20 years, but Ramses II. was overwhelmed by what his workers did.
One the left and on the right side of the entrance you can find 2 enormous statues (see picture above) that are 60 feet tall, which all show Ramses II. himself. On the inside of the big temple are one huge and a lot of small side chambers. There are also 4 statues which show the gods Re-Harachte, Ptah, Amun-Re and the "Godking" Ramses II. himself. They were put in a special place, so the sun shines on them every October 20th and February 20th.

The small temple that was built for his favorite wife Nefertari was smaller, but it was exceptional that he even built one for a woman. Her statue was the same size as his, which was new because the women of the kings were usually made a lot smaller and just reached up to the king's knees.
In the 1960's they had to relocate the 2 temples due to the new Assuan dam, which might have flooded the temples. In one of the biggest projects ever they cut the 20.000 tons of stone into 1036 pieces and built up again around 500ft away.

Tony Tigerstyle - What's Up With That

OK, so here is the first official post on the new blog. I don't wanna post the same joints that everybody posts on their pages, so I will always try to put up tracks that y'all ain't heard yet and you might not find anywhere else.

So this is a track of my good friend and partner, the other half of the Soul Occs, Tony Tigerstyle. I think the track is from around 2005 and it's called "What's Up With That". This was one of my favorite tracks back then, I love the loop that was used in the beat and Tony is rhyming at his best. Something for the underground heads!

I wanna get some guest posts in from time to time. Maybe Tony will tell y'all the story of the joint he did with Xzibit, that he had to throw away because X to the Z used the same verse for his own album...

Enjoy...

Welcome!!!

After my first journey where I tried blogging about 2 years ago, which ended after 5 posts, I will finally start again. I'm still building a team and already got 2 great friends on board. Esperado will give you some of his outlooks on life and music in his weekly section, which might end up in talking about girls and dating... My boy Matt will tell you something about the roots of the Hip Hop culture and the Zulu nation, but will also post some actual stuff. I won't focus on Hip Hop or music in general, I will give you some opinions and information about pretty much anything that I find interesting. Might be sports, especially the new NBA season, fashion, culture or history, give you information on some of the most beautiful places on earth or just tell some personal stories. Everything is possible!
I don't want to rant too much, that is already being done on other pages. I just will when something really annoys me, like all the complaining other people do, I hate that sh*t.
I will also keep you updated on my projects, I'm currently working on a special EP with Punchlyne (of eMC), the Soul Occs LP finally got a home and there is a lot of other stuff going on, but I will tell you about it, when the time is right.
I made the design by myself, I'm not really a geek or anything and don't really know about html, i just know how to help myself and I think the page looks cool. I hope you like it too.

So I hope you will enjoy ClapWorld and please tell yout friends to tell their friends about us! And don't forget to bookmark the page!
Much Love to everybody!
